Bloated Windows VM Files
The bloat of Windows infects even your linux systems if you are forced to use a Windows VM.
One of the most common complaints I hear against Windows is that it is bloated and large for no good reason. I completely agree.
My Windows 7 VM that I use for work just randomly exploded from around 30Gb to 80Gb all because Windows decided to do some "disk maintenance" which broke the thin provisioning if the virtual disk. Ugh.
I had to spend time this morning, pruning and deleting unneeded files and then cloning my VM onto a different hard drive so that my root partition doesn’t get filled up. And of course, none of the obvious options for doing this would work. I had to manually figure out the vboxmanage commands to clone and move the existing VM in a way that would work.
Ugh… at least I’m not sick anymore, so I have that going for me.
